43 photographers
In May 2013, world-renowned photojournalists Scout Tufankjian and Eric Grigorian spent four intensive weeks with Tumo students, in a workshop on storytelling through photography. After getting acquainted with the fundamentals of photo stories, the works of leading photographers in the field and different forms that photo stories can take, students chose themes that interest them and composed their own series. Eventually, the 43 participants showcased their work in a large-scale, public photo exhibition at Tumo.

The workshop participants tried to depict extraordinary stories about people and events that surround them through photography. The challenge of expressing narrative visually made the workshop participants pay attention to how details, color and composition can convey meaning. As these handful of examples demonstrated, the young photographers discovered the art of making regular people the heroes of their stories.
