Choreography of Movement
In April, New York cinematographer Mkrtich "Mko" Malkhasyan led a three week intensive workshop on the visual language of movement entitled the "Choreography of Movement". The aim of the workshop was to introduce students to the language of motion. The 15 participants split into four groups and explored the Tumo grounds to understand the concept of visual language and choreographed movements. The two groups filming at Tumo Park, the soccer field, the basketball court and Tumo Plaza filmed game movements of children at play, while the two groups filming inside the Tumo building captured the dynamics of daily movements of Tumo students and staff. Each group also focused on using one particular sound in their short film: drums, piano, trumpet and guitar.

Students rapidly went from pre-production to actually shooting the scenes during the course of the workshop. In June, students began working on post-production and completed their project in another three weeks. The result was an impressive four-minute short film comprised of the one minute standalone segments produced by each group. The films depicted Tumo in a fresh way, focusing on motion and sound both inside and outside the building.
