3D Modeling with Rhinoceros

About Babak Ghafari

The 3D Modeling workshop is led by Babak Ghafari, a young architect and Rhinoceros specialist from Tehran. Babak has worked with a number of award-wining architecture firms. Babak has been invited to participate in the prestigious Dynamic Fields seminar, led by Zaha Hadid’s partner Patrik Shumacher, which will take place in Bucharest in the summer.

This workshop brought together motivated Tumo students with no prior knowledge and gave them the opportunity to design their own models with a powerful 3D modeling software, Rhinoceros. Some of them even use parametric modeling techniques with the Grasshopper plugin, which allowed them to define shapes through mathematical models and to manipulate their geometries using algorithms that they designed. Using Tumo's two MakerBot Replicator 2 desktop 3D printers, they produced scale models of their creations.

Students who complete the 3D Modeling and Advanced 3D Modeling workshops will get a chance to participate in a final one-month project workshop in June, titled Digital Design – Intro to Modeling and Strategies of Representation, led by Narineh Mirzaeian, a Los Angeles based designer and associate at Gehry Partners LLP.
