About Narineh Mirzaeian

Narineh Mirzaeian is a Los Angeles-based designer whose work focuses on the development of dynamic building technologies, integrating digital design and advanced fabrication techniques.  Through her multidisciplinary approach she engages in design work at various scales, across a broad range of disciplines, to study and cultivate works of spatial and material interest. Previously she was an Architectural Associate at Gehry Partners for eight years where she played a key role on numerous projects completed and under construction internationally. Prior to her tenure at GP, she was project designer at Graft, overseeing the realization of several award winning projects.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Southern California and a Master of Architecture degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, where her thesis project was published as part of the L.A. Now series—garnering numerous awards, including the 2005 P/A Award. She is currently a lecturer at the University of California, Los Angeles.

This workshop offered new ways of thinking about form and geometry, helping students develop techniques that can be used in a broad range of design work.

Students were introduced to the fundamentals of three-dimensional modeling and associated computer-aided design. Through a series of highly focused exercises, they gained a grasp of such software as Rhinoceros and Grasshopper, and explored the interaction between two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms.

The digital models produced in the workshop were ultimately transformed into physical objects using the latest in 3D printing technology. Members of the public and fellow students came out to view these abstract displays during a special group exhibition held at Tumo on July 27.
