About Norayr Kasper


Kasper is a Canadian-Armenian artist who grew up in Venice, Italy, graduated from the Collegio M-Raphael, and studied at the IUAV School of Architecture. 

 

Moving from Venice to Montreal, he switched naturally to cinematography, enrolling in Concordia University's film production and cinema studies program.

 

Kasper lensed his first feature film by the renowned artist and film director Atom Egoyan, Calendar, an experimental mixed-media project exploring the role of architectural sites in identity formation. Calendar opened at the Berlin Film Festival and won the C.I.C.A.E. prize for Best Film in the Forum of New Cinema in 1993. Read more >>

 

In February, Canadian-Armenian cinematographer Norayr Kasper led a workshop on cinematography and the visual narrative. The workshop provided participants with a theoretical and practical overview of the art of cinematography. Kasper shared his expertise, screened clips from films, and discussed the challenges facing cinematographers today.

Kasper has served as cinematographer for over 30 films, including Atom Egoyan’s 1993 film Calendar. In 2011 he won the Golden Orange Award for Best Cinematography.
