Hip-Hop Basics

Popular Armenian hip-hop artist Misho introduced a group of Tumo students to Hip-hop Basics. Over the course of two weeks, the students embraced hip-hop music through close studies of the history of the genre, rhythm, lyricism. The workshop ended with the marriage of the students’ original lyrics with original beats created by their peers who participated concurrently in DJ Serjo’s beatmaking workshop. DJ Serjo, a leader in the Armenian electronica scene, engaged a group of Tumo students in the basics of beat-making using Garage Band, a simple recording software developed by Apple. The two-week workshop ended in a collaboration with a set of students who were learning to write hip-hop lyrics under the guidance of hip-hop artist Misho.  The beat-making students also produced an original music track called Start.
