Both versions rely on a night and day system of the world and there are several climates. The survival mode is as the name suggests, about surviving. In the survival mode, animals can be hunted, used for food, and made into further resources for building. There are monsters whom the avatar fights off. When the avatar "dies," the avatar simply starts over from scratch. The game is essentially living real life by eating, getting hurt, regenerating, dying, making structures, and so on. Theoretically, if a player had a goal to obtain with this game, it would be to build the most possible structures before dying and/or not dying.
