Today at Tumo, prolific filmmaker, artist and professor Gideon Koppel continued the series of Golden Apricot talks with a screening of his most recent semi-autobiographical film "Sleep Furiously". The film was one of the most critically acclaimed British films of the year with a soundtrack by Aphex Twin. Koppel stated that the low budget film was the first where he was the operator as well as the director and producer. Prior to the screening, he encouraged the audience to try to engage with the film on a sensory level.

The screening was followed by a question and answer session with the audience during which Koppel spoke about his inspirations. He admitted that he never dreamt of being an artist, rather, he wanted to be a mathematician. When asked about creativity, he said that his creative process is often inspired by mistakes. Koppel also mentioned that he wanted to make a film which juxtaposed the intimacy of human gestures with scenery from his hometown in Wales.

Gideon Koppel is also an award winning director of commercials, a Professor of Film at Aberystwyth University and an Associate Fellow of Green Templeton College, University of Oxford.
