The Tumo music studio isn't the only place where music can be heard at Tumo, students are surrounded by music at the center at all times, whether in the quadrants, taking a break on the bleachers or participating in music workshops. Music can even be heard in the restrooms at Tumo. But most students plug in and listen to their own music while learning.
We asked Tumo teens about their favorite songs and were surprised at the diversity of their choices, with genres varying from jazz, rock and classical, to pop, reggae and electro. Tracks in English, Armenian, Russian, French and German can be heard leaking from headphones around the Tumo floor.
As expected, the majority of students choose pop music when doing learning activities, but we also turned up a much wider variety of artists that Tumo students were listening to when we surveyed them.
