Twenty Tumo students are currently giving back to the Tumo community by volunteering their time to assist their peers and learning coaches.
After completing a round of interviews and orientation sessions, twenty of the best students were selected to become volunteer coach assistants. In the space of two months, they have become a crucial part of the team. The volunteers, wearing orange T-shirts, encourage students to take part in activities, workshops and events and promote a culture of volunteerism at Tumo.
Each volunteer has their own focus area and assists students in better understanding the activities in this area as well as others. Hakob, a volunteer with a background in animation said "I decided I wanted to become a volunteer coach because I'm too young to become a learning coach, but I wanted to get work experience and assist my friends. The coaches have taught me and mentored me and I wanted to do the same for my peers. Sometimes it can be challenging to manage my time, but I enjoy this challenge and helping others."
All volunteers come once a week to give their time to Tumo. They all continue to attend their regular Tumo sessions and workshops, while also studying at school, college or university.
