Starting February 9th, workshop leader Ani Manukyan will kick off a new series of sketching workshop to complement the existing comic drawing workshops.

Ani is full of enthusiasm about teaching students how to sketch effectively. "I discovered my passion for drawing and sketching when I was 15 because I was interested in fashion design. At the time, I felt like my life would be incomplete if I didn't draw and I would only be fully satisfied when I could sketch anything I saw or imagined. I want to share that experience with my students at Tumo." Under Ani's guidance, participants will learn how to sketch objects in different positions and characters in movement according to the logic of a given storyline. "We're going to use pencils, coal and pastels to sketch. I feel that students will discover which material they are most comfortable with and the styles that allow them to explore their skills to the fullest." Participants will expand their imagination by thinking about the movement of objects and how to depict them on paper. "I believe that anyone can draw, it just takes guidance and practice," said Ani, "it is an important skill that students can then apply to other learning areas at Tumo such as animation, game development, graphic design and even filmmaking."

Ani earned her Master's degree in Architecture from the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia. After graduating with a degree in architecture, she decided to follow her passion for drawing, while also developing her skills at the Department of Ceramics at the National Center for Aesthetics. Ani has been part of the Tumo team since its opening in 2011.
