Over 200 people attended the opening of the "Soviet Modern" exhibition and panel discussion on Saturday.

Two participants of visual artist Katharina Roters' six week architectural photography workshop opened the week long exhibition and spoke alongside Tumo Director Marie Lou Papazian about their learning experience during the workshop. The results were projected on the walls of the Tumo installation area and shown on iPads and 14 flat screen displays. Attendees had a chance to take part in the interactive exhibition by voting for their favorite photographs.

Following the opening ceremony, attendees filled up the Tumo Cinema to participate in an open panel discussion entitled Traces of the "Other" Society, moderated by architect Sarhat Petrosyan. Art critic Ruben Arevshatyan spoke about the influence of architecture on political, social and economic realities. Documentary photographer Hayk Bianjyan spoke of his personal collection of Soviet artefacts and the importance of having a collective memory through the preservation of everyday artefacts. The final speaker was Katharina Roters, who spoke about Hungary's cube houses to illustrate the over-writing of architectural heritage. This was followed by an open discussion with the audience.

The exhibition is open to the public every day from 14:00 to 19:30 until December 19th.
