Today, the world renowned Armenian folk singer Hasmik Harutyunyan visited Tumo and held a masterclass with the members of Tumo's Tmba Ta Orchestra.

Ms. Harutyunyan shared her experience of how she pursued her dreams of singing after graduating from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics at the Yerevan State University. She spoke of the methodology of Armenian folk music and taught students how control their singing voice. She asked students to sing individually and analyzed their strengths and weaknesses. She then sang with the students alongside Tmba Ta workshop leader Arik Grigoryan and demonstrated singing methods to help master nuances of breath and voice.

Hasmik Harutunyan is the leading member of the Shoghaken Folk Ensemble. She is a graduate of the Yerevan State Pedagogical University and the Department of Vocal Music at the Arno Babajanian School of Music. In 2004, Harutyunyan's Armenian Lullabies was recognized by the New York Times as an outstanding world music CD.
