In July and August, filmmaker and director Maria Sahakyan lead a hands on two month filmmaking workshop at Tumo Dilijan. Students began by learning about film theory by watching and discussing a number of films from various genres. They then worked together on the creation of a storyline which they all engaged with during the production phase of the collaborative project.

For the first month, participants focused on developing the script and researching filmmaking methods. The next month was spent on filming and post-production. The final 20 minute film was made entirely by the students under the guidance of Sahakyan who coordinated the workshop and provided assistance and advice when necessary. The romantic drama "Alfa" is the first fully student produced narrative film to come out of Tumo Dilijan.

Maria Sahakyan graduated from the renowned VGIK film school in Moscow. Her films have been shown in numerous festivals around the world. Her feature debut, The Lighthouse (2006) was shown in the Perspectives competition of the Moscow Film Festival and her third feature, I'm Going to Change My Name, won the Hayak National Cinema Awards for Best Film.
