This week, art director and concept artist Arman Akopian kicked off a two week workshop on the role of concept art in video games. Participants have begun to learn how to research, explore, advance, communicate and hope (REACH) through concept art.

Throughout the workshop, students will improve their skills in image making, storytelling and reference and resource gathering.  They will explore different techniques and methods of creating production ready concepts. By the end of the workshop, students will have created character and environment concepts on the theme of Armenian folklore using Adobe Photoshop and Autodesk 3ds Max.

Arman's work ranges from creating concepts for magazines and game packaging covers, to promotional key art, and fantasy and sci-fi book covers. His work can be seen in Game Informer, PC Gamer, Imagine FX and Square Enix. He is currently a senior concept artist and illustrator at Ubisoft.
