This week, illustrator and performer Deborah Phares completed a 10 day workshop on the creation of comics with an exhibition of 25 comic strips with characters created and developed by her workshop participants. Students were taught comic writing and drawing techniques to construct a cartoon character and develop its personality and visual appearance, as well as its characteristics, its personal life and its story. The characters were then brought to life with lines, colors and expressive camera angles.
The featured characters were inspired by video games, movies, environmental and social issues, consumerism, life and death, as well as daily life.
Deborah Phares graduated from the Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts in 2003 with a Master in Advertizing, Specialized in Concept and Copywriting. She has been a teacher since October 2004 and is currently teaching at the Illustration department of ALBA, the Graphic Design department at the Lebanese University and Antonine University.
