Award winning animator, director and educator Gary Schwartz will be leading intensive, hands-on beginner and intermediate level workshops entitled "The Art and Craft of Animation" for all Tumo members interested in animation.

In the initial phase of the workshops, participants will focus on cycles and metamorphosis in animation. They will then work collaboratively to develop animated sequences from each other's drawings. The finished drawings will be shot under an animation camera for final production. Students will also experiment with paper cut outs and animation software LunchBox DV, Boinx iStopMotion and Dragonframe, and get instant feedback on their work from Schwartz.

Gary Schwartz is the founder of Single Frame Films and has designed and directed animations for Disney Pictures, Sesame Street, MTV, Fox Television and for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in the U.S. He is currently a lecturer at the University of Michigan School of Art and Design. His kinetic cinema sculptures, installations and films have been internationally exhibited in major museums and galleries.
