On Saturday, Tumo will host the Goethe Institut travelling exhibition curated by comics expert Matthias Schneider, titled Comics, Manga & Co., The New Culture of German Comics. During the course of this week, Markus 'mawil' Witzel will run a four day workshop with 15 Tumo students, the results of which will also be displayed during the exhibition.

The travelling exhibition presents two generations of German comic artists: the avant-garde which paved the way for the emergence of an independent culture of German comics, and a generation of younger comic illustrators whose work embraces new narrative aspects and aesthetics. A wide range of images will be exhibited, including autobiographical, surrealist, historical and fantasy stories, comic journalism and literary adaptations created by computer, scratchboard, pencil, ink and charcoal.

The 13 artists in Comics, Manga & Co. explore new possibilities in the medium of comics. They disengage from the genre's formal standards and open up comics to the graphic arts, painting and illustration.
