On Sunday April 14 students participating in Tumo's introductory 3D Modeling workshop invited friends and parents to a 3D printing party. Using our two MakerBot Replicator 2 desktop 3D printers, they produced scale models of their creations. The workshop brings together motivated participants with no prior knowledge and gives them an opportunity to design their own models with the powerful 3D modeling software Rhinoceros. Some of them even use parametric modeling techniques with the Grasshopper plugin which allowed them to define shapes through mathematical models and to manipulate their geometries using algorithms that they design.

The 3D Modeling workshop is led by Tumo's Babak Ghafari, a young architect and Rhinoceros specialist who has worked with a number of award-wining architecture firms. Babak has been invited to participate in the prestigious Dynamic Fields seminar, led by Zaha Hadid partner Patrik Shumacher, that will take place in Bucharest in the summer.

Students who complete the 3D Modeling and Advanced 3D Modeling workshops will get a chance to participate in a final one-month project workshop in June, titled Digital Design – Intro to Modeling and Strategies of Representation, led by Narineh Mirzaeian, a Los Angeles based designer and associate at Gehry Partners LLP.
