The results of Tumography, Tumo’s first photography competition, were announced yesterday. In an open judging format, participants filled Tumo Cinema to listen to the deliberations of the professional jury panel, made up of photographers Karen Mirzoyan and Nazik Armenakyan, and art curator Vigen Galstyan.

The jury discussed the winning photographs at length, commenting on composition and style and selecting the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. The young photographers had the opportunity to listen to and learn from the decision making process. Winners were chosen out of 300 photos submitted during the contest in five categories: Portrait, Documentary, Nature, Open and Story.

First place winners were awarded photography books in the category in which they won. The books were gifted to Tumo by Linda Shahinian and Herb Schiff, who were inspired by the documentary about Tumo aired on the U.S. television channel PBS. The books included Alex Webb’s “The Suffering of Light”, Sebastião Salgado’s “Workers”, Amsel Adams’s “400 photographs”, Richard Avedon’s “Evidence: 1944-1994” and “Magnum Contact Sheets” featuring the work of photographers of the renowned Magnum photo agency. All winners were also awarded specially made Tumography T-Shirts.

Tumo plans to hold additional contests open to an even wider range of young photographers.
