A press conference took place today at Tumo, with the participation of the US Embassy, to mark the official opening of the American Film Showcase.

The theme of this year's showcase, youth empowerment, is particularly appropriate in light of the fact that all 24 films included in the program and all the events and hands on workshops taking place around the showcase share the same concept: to give young people the opportunity to discover their strengths, and empower them to realize their full potential.

It is also fitting that Brooklyn Castle, the opening film of the showcase, tells the true story of how a group of young students achieve unexpected success despite all the obstacles they face in their daily lives.

Tumo students have been actively involved in all aspects of the showcase since the inception of the project. They produced the Armenian subtitles for the films, and led the showcase’s branding campaign, including the design of its logo, posters, brochures and other promotional material. And starting tomorrow, over 30 students will work on creating their own short documentary films over the course of a week, under the guidance of film director Jay Rosenblatt, and the producers of Brooklyn Castle, Director Katie Dellamaggiore, and Editor Nelson Dellamaggiore.
